A teacher of Design Technology for KS3, GCSE and IB. Currently based in Hong Kong I am originally from London, UK.
I been teaching Design Tech for roughly 7 years. In London/ Asia and New Zealand. I've had many other jobs but have never really enjoyed them as much as I do this one, every day is different, every day you can learn something new and practice something different.
Being in Hong Kong can be a liberating experience, you seem to be at the forefront of everything new and their are very few rules to follow. A 30 min journey and your over the border and in Shenzhen, a portal for all that comes out of Guangdong, one the main manufacturing zones in china. Here you can buy an Apple Air for $600USD and it will be legit if you're lucky. This means DT school projects can use the latest of technologies science has to offer. Some of my students have been published in international design magazines because the work they have done truly breaks the mould.
I believe that Design Technology should be used to better our environment, bring access for all and provide universal design. I am tired of seeing artifacts produced by students that can be bought for a fith of the price from IKEA.
I am a true follower of the rule; the only cause of disability is crap design.
